Inside Our Workshop

Inside Our Workshop…

This week we have gone inside our workshop to find out what goes on behind the scenes, and what hard work goes in to making our quality hardwood products.

The staff on a daily basis make sure the workshop runs smoothly. Our joiners Bob, Scott, Justin, Kieran and Dominic produce windowsdoorsorangeries and conservatories using various hardwood ranging from Merranti to Oak. They are also in charge of stock checking both the materials and the hardware, and general housekeeping duties.
Once the products are made they go through to Matthew who oversees the finishing department and is assisted by Dan, Nathan and Derek. Here they are in charge of preparing the products ready for spraying by beading, filing and sanding.
Once completed, items are sent through to Wayne who runs the spray shop. Wayne checks all products before priming and top coating. He is also responsible for the maintenance of the equipment and making sure that everything is cleaned regularly.
The final job is for Matthew to glaze the products before they are delivered to the customer.
We asked these valued employees a few questions about working for Catton Windows…

1. WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR JOB?

“The things we enjoy the most about our jobs are the diversity and the people we work with.” (Scott – Joiner & Matt – Finisher)

2. HOW DOES CATTON WINDOWS DIFFER FROM OTHER LOCAL WINDOW COMPANIES?

“We are a small family run company and as such we are all very close and have a great working relationship.” (Justin – Joiner)

3. WHAT IS MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT YOUR JOB?

“Making sure the paint/stain finish is of top quality and just as the customer would want. Many customers still like to see the grain through the paint so this can be a challenge to make sure the coverage is just right.” (Wayne – Sprayer)

4. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE CUSTOMERS LOOKING TO IMPROVE THEIR HOMES THROUGH CUSTOM JOINERY?

“Obtain as many quotes from different companies as possible as prices can vary. Ask to see samples of their work and of the fixtures and fittings used as the quality can also vary greatly. If you have the opportunity to visit the factory where your potential products are to be made, do so.” (Scott & Justin – Joiners)

5. WHAT PIECE OF WORK ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF TO DATE WHILST WORKING FOR CATTON WINDOWS?

“I’m proud of all the jobs we have produced in Oak.” (Matt – Finisher)
